Lesson 3 - Overcoming Temptation
Winning The Battle Against Sin
Key Verse:
"There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it." – 1 Corinthians 10:13 (KJV)
Introduction: What is Temptation?
Temptation is a test or desire to do something wrong. Every Christian faces temptation, but the good news is that God provides a way to overcome it.
Temptation can come in different ways:
- Through thoughts and desires – The enemy whispers lies to our minds.
- Through people around us – Friends, family, or media can influence us.
- Through difficult situations – When life is hard, we may be tempted to take shortcuts or sin to feel better.
Reflection Question: Have you ever been tempted to do something wrong but resisted? What helped you stand strong?
1. Understanding How Temptation Works
James 1:14-15 (KJV) – "But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death."
Temptation follows a pattern:
- Desire – Temptation starts when you desire something wrong.
- Deception – The enemy convinces you that it’s not so bad.
- Disobedience – Giving in to temptation leads to sin.
- Death – Sin brings consequences, whether spiritual, emotional, or physical.
Example:
- Eve in the Garden (Genesis 3:1-6) – She saw the fruit, Satan deceived her, she ate, and sin entered the world.
- Jesus in the Wilderness (Matthew 4:1-11) – Satan tempted Jesus, but He resisted with the Word of God.
Prophet Uebert Angel teaches:
"The devil knows he cannot force you to sin, so he deceives you into believing it’s not a big deal. But revelation knowledge of God’s Word destroys temptation!"
Discussion Question: Can you think of a time when temptation looked harmless but had bad consequences?
2. How to Overcome Temptation
Matthew 26:41 (KJV) – "Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak."
Here are five ways to resist temptation and win the battle against sin:
A) Stay Close to God
Psalm 119:11 (KJV) – "Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee."
- The more you fill your mind with God’s Word, the harder it is for sin to take hold.
- Spend time in prayer, worship, and the Bible daily.
Prophet Uebert Angel teaches:
"The presence of God is the best defense against sin. You cannot stay in His presence and continue in sin!"
B) Avoid Triggers & Weak Spots
Romans 13:14 (KJV) – "But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof."
- Identify what leads you to sin and cut it off.
- If certain people, movies, music, or situations make it easier for you to sin, avoid them.
Example:
- If gossip is a temptation, stay away from gossipers.
- If sexual sin is a struggle, don’t entertain impure content online.
Prophet Uebert Angel teaches:
"You cannot fight temptation while feeding it. Starve the temptation by removing its source!"
C) Speak the Word Against Temptation
Matthew 4:4 (KJV) – "But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God."
- Jesus overcame Satan by declaring scripture.
- When temptation comes, don’t stay silent, speak the Word out loud!
Example:
- If you are tempted to fear, say: "God has not given me the spirit of fear!" (2 Timothy 1:7)
- If you are tempted to lie, say: "I will speak the truth in love!" (Ephesians 4:15)
Activity: Find a Bible verse that helps you resist a specific temptation, write it down and read over it daily.
D) Surround Yourself with Godly People
Proverbs 27:17 (KJV) – "Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend."
- Your friends influence your choices.
- Find people who encourage you to live for God.
Prophet Uebert Angel teaches:
"Who you follow determines where you end up. Walk with those who push you toward God!"
Reflection: Do your closest friends help you grow spiritually, or do they make it harder for you to resist temptation?
E) Run from Sin!
2 Timothy 2:22 (KJV) – "Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart."
- Some battles aren’t meant to be fought, they’re meant to be fled from.
- Don’t negotiate with sin, run from it!
Example:
- Joseph ran from Potiphar’s wife instead of staying in temptation (Genesis 39:7-12).
Prophet Uebert Angel teaches:
"Some sins need one solution: turn around and run!"
Roleplay Exercise: Practice saying “No” in a situation where someone pressures you to sin.
3. The Reward of Overcoming Temptation
James 1:12 (KJV) – "Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him."
- Every victory over temptation brings you closer to God.
- God rewards those who stand firm against sin.
- You will experience supernatural strength and freedom in Christ!
Prophet Uebert Angel teaches:
"Every time you say NO to sin, you say YES to God’s favor and blessings!"
Declaration:
"I am strong in the Lord, and I will not fall into temptation!"
Final Thoughts: Victory Over Temptation is Possible!
Philippians 4:13 (KJV) – "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me."
Temptation may seem harmless at first, but it is a trap that leads to destruction. It often disguises itself as something enjoyable or beneficial, but its true purpose is to draw you away from God’s best for your life. Giving in to temptation brings guilt, shame, and regret, and over time, it weakens your spiritual strength. Sin may feel good for a moment, but it always comes with consequences, whether it’s a broken relationship, lost opportunities, or distance from God.
The good news is that God has already given you the power to overcome temptation! Every time you resist, you become stronger in your faith. The more you choose God’s way over sin, the more you grow in spiritual authority, experience peace, and walk in divine favor.
Prophet Uebert Angel teaches:
"Every time you say NO to sin, you say YES to God’s blessings. Temptation loses its power when you focus on the bigger reward, God’s plan for your life!"
Instead of seeing temptation as something too difficult to resist, see it as an opportunity to grow spiritually. With every test you pass, God elevates you to higher levels. Stand strong, declare God’s Word, and remember that you are already victorious in Christ.
Will you choose to overcome temptation and walk in victory starting today?
